The Royal Maces of VFA-27 began a Attack Squadron 27 (VA-27) September 1, 1967. Their first aircraft was the A-7 Corsair II. In 1991 they transitioned to the F/A-18C Hornet which they flew until 2004 when they began flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The Royal Maces flew combat missions in Vietnam, Operation Southern Watch as well as in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
