The Blacklions of VFA-213 were established on June 22, 1955 flying the F2H Banshee. After the Banshee they flew the F4D Skyray, F3H Demon, F-4 Phantom, F-14 Tomcat and currently the F/A-18F Super Hornet. They have supported combat actions in the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve.
