The Pukin Dogs of VFA-143 were a reserve squadron called to active duty on July 20, 1950. Their first aircraft was the F4U Corsair. Additional aircraft they have flown include the F9F Panther, F3H Demon, F-4 Phantom, F-14 Tomcat and currently the F/A-18E Super Hornet. They have deployed in support of the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Shield as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve.
