The Jolly Rogers of VFA-103 were established on May 1, 1952 as the VF-103 Sluggers flying the FG-1D Corsair. They would adopt the Jolly Rogers moniker in 1995 after VF-84 was disestablished. VFA-103, after the Corsair, would fly the F9F Cougar, F-8 Crusader, F-4 Phantom, F-14 Tomcat and currently the F/A-18F Super Hornet. They have supported combat efforts in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve.
