VF-96 Fighting Falcons Squadron Shirt
VF-96 Fighting Falcons Squadron Shirt
Honor the legacy of VF-96, the Fighting Falcons, and their distinguished history in U.S. Navy fighter aviation.
Established in 1962, VF-96 served during the Cold War and Vietnam era while flying the F-4 Phantom II from U.S. Navy aircraft carriers in the Pacific. Known as the Fighting Falcons, the squadron became one of the Navy's most successful fighter units of the Vietnam War, flying combat missions from carriers including USS Enterprise, USS America, and USS Constellation.
VF-96 earned an extraordinary air-to-air combat record during its 1971–1972 deployment aboard USS Constellation. On May 10, 1972, Fighting Falcons F-4J crews shot down six enemy MiGs in a single day. Three were credited to LT Randall Cunningham and LTJG William Driscoll, giving them five victories and making them the first U.S. aces of the Vietnam War and the Navy's only aces of the conflict. VF-96 finished the war credited with eight MiG kills, the highest total of any Navy fighter squadron.
Featuring an F-4 Phantom II on the front and the historic VF-96 Fighting Falcons patch on the back, this shirt honors the aircraft, aviators, aircrew, and maintainers behind one of the most accomplished fighter squadrons of the Vietnam War.
