The "World Famous Fighting Tigers" of Attack Squadron 65 (VA-65) were established in 1945 as Torpedo Squadron 74 (VT-74) flying the SB2C Helldiver. Just a year after being established they would be redesignated as VA-2B in 1946, again to VA-25 in 1948 and finally to VA-65 in 1959. In addition to the Helldiver, they would fly the TBM-3 Avenger, SNJ-4, AD Skyraider and A-6 Intruder. They would conduct over 30 deployments to include both Vietnam and the Gulf War.
