VA-35 Black Panthers Squadron Shirt

Honor the legacy of VA-35, the Black Panthers, and more than six decades of U.S. Navy attack aviation.

Established as Bombing Squadron 3B (VB-3B) in 1934 and redesignated VA-35 in 1950, the Black Panthers served through generations of Naval Aviation and operated numerous aircraft before transitioning to the A-6 Intruder in 1965. The squadron's distinctive diving black panther insignia traces its history to the 1930s and became one of the enduring symbols of Navy attack aviation.

Flying the A-6, VA-35 conducted demanding all-weather combat missions during the Vietnam War. In February 1967, Black Panther Intruders carried out the Navy's first aerial mining operation since World War II, placing minefields in North Vietnamese waterways. Decades later, VA-35 continued flying the A-6E and KA-6D during Operation Desert Storm, deploying aboard USS Saratoga as part of Carrier Air Wing 17.
