The Lockheed P2V Neptune was a land based maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft. It made its first flight on 17 May 1945 and began operational use in March of 1947. It would remain in service for over 30 years, until being retired in 1978. It conducted missions in support of the Cold War and Vietnam War. Additionally, it flew covert operations for the CIA and for a short period of time was a nuclear bomber for the Navy.
