The Grumman A-6 Intruder was a twin-engine, carrier-based attack aircraft built to strike targets at long range, day or night, and in virtually any weather. Entering fleet service in 1963, the Intruder's advanced navigation and attack systems gave its two-person crew the ability to fly low-level missions and accurately deliver ordnance when weather or darkness kept other aircraft on the ground.

From Vietnam through Desert Storm, the A-6 served as one of the Navy and Marine Corps' premier attack aircraft. During Desert Storm alone, Navy and Marine Intruders flew more than 4,700 combat sorties before the aircraft ultimately retired from service in 1997.
