About the VFA-37 Ragin' Bulls
The Ragin' Bulls were established as Attack Squadron 37 (VA-37) on July 1, 1967. The squadron adopted its distinctive Bulls insignia in 1968 and built its early history flying the A-7 Corsair II. VA-37 served during the Vietnam era and later operated in the Mediterranean and Middle East, including deployments during periods of heightened tensions in Lebanon.
In 1990, VA-37 was redesignated VFA-37 as the squadron transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet. The Ragin' Bulls went on to fly combat missions during Operation Desert Fox, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve. During Desert Fox in 1998, the squadron flew 44 combat sorties over four nights, and during the opening phase of Iraqi Freedom in 2003, it flew 252 combat sorties.
The Ragin' Bulls later transitioned to the F/A-18E Super Hornet. Today, VFA-37 continues to operate the single-seat Super Hornet, carrying forward a Naval Aviation legacy that began more than five decades ago and spans generations of carrier-based combat operations.
